On 2nd June 2018, my life changed forever when I was out with my friend Josh and we were viciously attacked. I was rushed to hospital for emergency life saving surgery. I had sustained a traumatic brain injury during the attack on me and my life now has completely changed. If I’m honest, a few years on, I still do struggle to come to terms with what happened to me. I suffer daily with many issues such as PTSD, anxiety, headaches, fatigue, insomnia, loneliness, memory issues and confusion, to name a few but I am slowly learning to live with my new life. I can’t always keep up with my friends now and I have lost a few along my recovery journey, who just don’t understand who I am anymore, but I survived what could have killed me and I am so determined to make the best of my life, for what it is now and the future I can have.
I know how lonely and scary having a traumatic brain injury can be and I want to help other young people who are dealing with their new life after brain injury and that is why I have joined After Matters as a trustee and advocate to help other young brain injury survivors as much as I can.
